PATNA: The state government on Wednesday suspended an assistant and served a show-cause notice to an engineer for a map of India displayed on state urban development and housing department (UDHD) website showing Jammu and Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh not as parts of the country.
The government has also served a show-cause notice to Ahmedabad-based Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) that prepared the Patna Master Plan 2031.
UDHD minister Samrat Chaudhary said the action had been taken in the wake of the incorrect map put on the department website.
Sources said both the assistant and the engineer are from building construction department and were on deputation to UDHD for quite some time. UDHD secretary B Rajender, however, did not reveal their names. The UDHD removed the controversial map from its website after the matter was reported in the media.
The BJP has attacked the state government over the issue and demanded stringent action against those responsible for the lapse. Union minister of state for drinking water and sanitation Ramkripal Yadav, leader of opposition in Bihar legislative council Sushil Kumar Modi and BJP state chief Mangal Pandey slammed the state government for glossing over Jammu and Kashmir and Arunchal Pradesh in the map uploaded on the UDHD website. CM Jitan Ram Manjhi, too, had taken dim view of the matter and promised action against those responsible for the same.
